Common exceptions: overview

Regardless of country, the following vehicle categories are most commonly exempt from all bans:

  1. Transport of perishable goods (ATP): food requiring controlled temperature
  2. Transport of live animals
  3. Transport of fuels and energy carriers
  4. Transport of life-saving medicines and medical materials
  5. Rescue and emergency service vehicles
  6. Military vehicles
  7. Combined transport (rail-road, sea-road)
  8. Vehicles with active priority orders (some countries)

Each country has its own specific conditions for qualifying for an exception. Before departure, always check whether your cargo meets exemption criteria in the specific country.

How to manage bans: dispatcher checklist

Working with the fleet telematics system, you can automatically monitor current bans and plan routes with them in mind. Here are the key steps:

  • Check the planned loading and unloading date: does it fall on a day with holidays or bans?
  • Identify all transit countries
  • For each country, check: vehicle tonnage vs. ban threshold (7.5 t, 12 t, etc.)
  • Verify whether the cargo qualifies for an exception (ATP, live animals, fuel)
  • Check whether the route passes through special sections (Brenner, Inntal, Oresund, Istanbul bridges)
  • Allow time buffers: a ban ending at 22:00 requires arriving at the border before 21:30
  • Prepare documentation confirming the exception (ATP documents, CMR with cargo designation)
  • For transport through Belarus, consult the legal department before entry
