Road tolls 2027 change in several countries on the main European freight routes. From 1 January 2027 new rules apply in the Netherlands, Lithuania and Belgium, and R-Pass is set to start in Alsace. Denmark plans to start on 5 January.

More changes follow later. Slovakia changes its toll operator in 2027, Romania opens TollRo to EETS providers on 15 January, Croatia starts Crolibertas on 1 March, Poland plans to extend e-TOLL from 16 March, and Sweden brings lighter trucks into its vignette from 26 March.

As of 3 November 2026. Several countries have not yet published their 2027 rates. We will update this article when the rates are published. It covers trucks over 3.5 t.

If you want to settle tolls in many countries with one device, see OMV SmartPass from ONYX.

Toll changes from 1 January 2027

Four toll systems change their rules on 1 January 2027, and Denmark plans to follow a few days later. You will find the details and sources in the table below.

  • Netherlands. HGVC rates rise by 2.6%, and the temporary cut from late 2026 expires.
  • Lithuania. Via Toll, a charge per kilometre driven, replaces vignettes.
  • France, Alsace. R-Pass is set to start, a per-kilometre charge for trucks over 3.5 t.
  • Belgium. Viapass changes how rates are indexed in Flanders and Wallonia.
  • Denmark, from 5 January. The per-kilometre toll is set to cover trucks from 3.5 to 12 t, if parliament passes the bill.

Slovakia also changes its system in 2027, but the state company NDS has not given the day it takes toll collection over.

Table: country, change, start date, status, source

The status column has four values. Adopted means the change is in law or in an authority’s decision. Announced means a statement by the operator or the ministry. Draft means a bill or regulation still in the legislative process. No 2027 rates published means we found no official amounts by the check date.

We give amounts in EUR/km only where the operator or the ministry publishes them. The table is the one place we update when new rates appear.

Netherlands and Lithuania: two systems with rates already set

Netherlands. Since 1 July 2026, trucks there pay HGVC (vrachtwagenheffing) instead of the Eurovignette. From 1 September to 31 December 2026 a 22.3% rate cut applies, and from 1 January 2027 full rates return, 2.6% higher.

For the most common combination, Euro 6 over 32 t, the operator gives a 2027 rate of 0.206 EUR/km. The ministry was due to publish the 2027 amounts in the Staatscourant in autumn 2026, but by 3 November we had not found that publication, so check the rates before you quote. Read more about the system in our guide to HGVC in the Netherlands.

Lithuania. Via Toll replaces vignettes with a charge per kilometre driven. Rates depend on vehicle weight, emission class and fuel type, and they were published on 30 June 2026.

Vignettes bought in 2026 expire on 1 January 2027. To use Via Toll, you need to register in the operator’s portal or app.

Slovakia, Belgium, Romania: new operator, indexation and EETS

Slovakia. The state company NDS did not use its option to extend the SkyToll contract into 2027. In 2027, NDS is set to run toll collection itself, but its announcement does not give the takeover day.

By 3 November 2026 we found no takeover date, no 2027 rates and no NDS instructions for holders of current devices. Ask your provider whether your device will work after the operator changes, and follow NDS announcements. We describe the current rules in our guide to tolls in Slovakia.

Belgium. The per-kilometre charge stays in all three regions, but each region indexes it differently. Flanders moves indexation from July to 1 January, Wallonia uses August 2026 inflation, and Brussels does not index its rates in 2027.

Viapass adds no new toll roads on 1 January. You will find the new per-kilometre amounts in the Viapass rate table and in our guide to Belgium.

Romania. TollRo, a per-kilometre charge for trucks, has applied since 1 October 2026. From 15 January 2027 the system is set to work with EETS providers from other EU countries.

The date comes from Law 226/2023, as amended by Law 103/2026. EETS provider registration with RoSETRE was scheduled to begin on 19 October 2026.

Before you send a truck to Romania, check with your provider whether your device already handles TollRo. See the details in our guide to TollRo.

France, Denmark, Sweden, Croatia: new truck tolls in the first quarter

Alsace. From 1 January 2027 R-Pass is set to cover trucks over 3.5 t on selected roads in the region. We do not give rates, because according to the press the region is considering a switch to a single rate.

Before you route a truck through Alsace, check the current tariff and the registration and payment terms on the Collectivité européenne d’Alsace website.

Denmark. The per-kilometre toll there applies to trucks from 12 t. From 5 January 2027 it is set to cover vehicles from 3.5 to 12 t as well, but the bill still awaits adoption.

Sweden. From 26 March 2027 the vignette will cover goods vehicles over 3,500 kg. If you send rigid trucks under 12 t to Sweden, add the vignette to your costs from that date.

Croatia. From 1 March 2027 motorway tolls are collected in free flow, without barriers. A heavy vehicle must carry an on-board unit (OBU), so arrange one before the first trip after that date.

Do not assume your current device will handle these systems. Ask your provider about each country separately and compare the options in our EETS device comparison.

Poland, Czechia, Hungary: draft or announcement

Poland. Many foreign carriers cross Poland, for example between Germany and Lithuania. Draft regulation RD341 extends e-TOLL by about 880 km of new motorways, expressways and selected national roads.

The target date is 16 March 2027, and the Council of Ministers is due to adopt the draft in Q4 2026. Rates for the new sections have not been published yet. If you plan transit routes through Poland, our guide to e-TOLL explains the current rules.

Czechia. According to the trade news site Zdopravy.cz, the Ministry of Transport is preparing a toll rate increase for vehicles over 3.5 t. The planned date is July 2027, not 1 January.

The draft is still under consultation, and no rates have been officially published. Until then the current rates apply, as described in our guide to tolls in Czechia.

Hungary. The HU-GO operator has not published 2027 rates. According to the press, the ministry announced different rates from 1 January 2027 on main roads, depending on whether they run parallel to a motorway.

By 3 November 2026 we had found no decree with these rates. You will find the current rules in our guide to HU-GO.

Toll rates 2027: where they are still missing

In these countries no 2027 rates had been published by 3 November 2026. This is the result of our check, not a guarantee that nothing will change.

  • Germany. Rates rest on the road cost study for 2023 to 2027.
  • Austria. Tariffs from 1 January 2026 apply.
  • Italy. The annual motorway toll adjustment for 2027 has not been announced.
  • Switzerland. An LSVA increase from 2027 has not been adopted.
  • Slovakia. The new operator has not published 2027 rates.
  • Czechia and Hungary. Changes have been announced, but without official rates. We describe them above.

We will come back to this article when the rates appear.

Eurovignette Directive: what changes in the background

Some of the changes in the table follow from Directive (EU) 2022/362. Four rules matter for trucks:

  • Until 25 March 2027 a country may limit tolls to trucks from 12 t. After that, this option ends. Sweden extends, and Denmark plans to extend, their tolls to lighter trucks in the first quarter of 2027.
  • From 25 March 2026 countries must add an air-pollution charge for trucks on the tolled network, with exceptions.
  • CO2 classes. Distance-based tolls (per kilometre) must vary by CO2 class, with exceptions.
  • From 25 March 2030 there will be no time-based vignettes for trucks on the TEN-T core network, except for justified exceptions.

For a full overview of rates, see our truck road tolls price list for Europe.

What to do before January

  • Check the CO2 class of each vehicle. More and more countries set the rate by it.
  • Review contracts and fixed freight rates for 2027. Check the clauses on toll changes before you sign annual prices.
  • Ask your device provider about the new systems. This applies above all to Slovakia, Lithuania, Romania, Croatia and Alsace.
  • Prepare rigid trucks going to Denmark. If the bill passes, vehicles from 3.5 to 12 t will need a device for the per-kilometre toll. The Danish toll operator publishes the list of providers.
  • Name one person to track the changes. Before each quarter, they check the operator announcements in the table and update your price lists.
  • Plan your first-quarter routes. Account for Sweden from 26 March, Croatia from 1 March and the new Polish sections from 16 March.

We describe more ways to control these costs in our guide to optimizing road toll costs.

If your trucks cross many countries, you can settle tolls with one device and on one invoice. OMV SmartPass covers 19 countries, including the Netherlands, converts currencies at the ECB rate, and you get Polish-language support.
